Richard Billups

Richard Billups has joined the MIUSA Team as a Guest Lab Instructor. He is currently working on his PhD in Applied Environmental Microbiology. His talks and workshops have been related to Indoor Air Quality issues and the damage from the Hurricanes that hit Florida, Alabama and Georgia in 2004. Future workshop talks will include his experience as a volunteer Microbiologist in Oct. 2005 working in Gulfport, Mississippi to assist in their recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

RESEARCH PAPERS AUTHORED

  • Four -- concerning the recovery of Stachybotrys Chartarum from the environment. (1997-2001)
  • Granted a provisional patent (2000) for the synthesis of an original agar (Stachybotrys Selective Agar) for the specific recovery of Stachybotrys chartarum and Memnoniella echinata.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • HUD study of normal flora fungi involving Non water damaged homes in Atlanta,Ga. (2001-2003). Published 2005.
  • Currently conducting a research project to categorize bacteria recovered from water damaged buildings as indicators for consultants to determine sources of water damage.

JOURNAL ARTICLE

  • "When Should Indoor Air Quality Professionals Use Viable, Along with Non-Viable Sampling Methods?"
    Published 2005 in two industry journals.
